About this Site

Xizang Zhiye is a web site commissioned by His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama of Tibet. This site has been created specifically to provide information to the Chinese people concerning Tibet and its relations with China. His Holiness the Dalai Lama believes that as more information becomes available concerning Tibet, the Chinese people will begin to understand the need for the Chinese and Tibetan leadership to come together in order to redefine the nature of Tibet-China relations for peaceful co-existence and mutual benefit.

Technology is making the world a smaller place. The World Wide Web allows people from all over the world to come together and share information. As the Internet grows, it becomes more and more apparent that we are one people with the same desire and right to happiness. It is indeed the wealth of cultural diversity which makes our world such an interesting and lively place to live in. As we learn more about one another, we may begin to come together and evolve into a compassionate, tolerant and mutually beneficial international community, where every human being is able to realize his/her maximum potential.

His Holiness the Dalai Lama has recognized the great potential of the world wide web for communicating openly with the Chinese people. Historically, China looked to Tibet for spiritual wisdom. Today, His Holiness is working towards greater communication with the Chinese people, seeing in this a means for creating happiness for both the Tibetan and Chinese people.

The Dalai Lama advocates love and compassion for all sentient beings, including the Chinese people. He knows that there can be no lasting happiness and peace without love and compassion.

The Buddha teaches compassion, wisdom and tolerance. To engender these virtues, one must practice the art of noble and right action. This includes a life-long commitment to helping all beings and moving in the way which is beneficial to peace and enlightenment of all beings. This requires immense efforts, as old habit patterns of reactions keep us trapped in anger, jealousy and hatred. However, our own happiness is determined by our ability to act with unselfish compassion and tolerance.

China and the Chinese people have a historic opportunity to strengthen their individual and national virtue by addressing the question of Tibet with a sense of justice. It is up to this generation of Chinese leaders to step forward and stop the injustice of present Tibet-China relations. When China makes this move towards real peace, it will go down in history as a great example of the awakening and enlightenment, the place which China deserves as one of the world's oldest and greatest civilizations.
